Microsoft Office for Home - Students

Installing Microsoft Office (Microsoft 365) at Home

This article explains how students can access Microsoft Office (Microsoft 365) on their personal devices using a Keyano student account.

Overview:

As a student of Keyano College, you may be eligible to use Microsoft Office through your Keyano account. Access is connected to your enrollment and registration status and may change when your courses end.

Important
  • Always sign in using your Keyano student email address and password.
  • If you sign in with a personal Microsoft account, you may not see install options.
  • Some devices (example: Chromebooks) do not support a desktop install. Use the web version instead.

Step 1: Sign In

  1. Go to https://www.microsoft365.com/
  2. Select Sign in
  3. Sign in using your Keyano student email address
Tip: If sign-in gets stuck or doesn’t load properly, close the page and try again using a Private / Incognito browser window.

Option 1: Use the Web Version (No Install Needed)

The web version runs in your browser and is the best option if you’re using a shared computer or a device that cannot install Office.

  1. Go to https://www.microsoft365.com/
  2. Select Word, Excel, or PowerPoint
  3. Your documents will save automatically to OneDrive

Option 2: Download and Install Microsoft 365 Apps

This installs the full Office apps on your computer. The install option may display as Install and more, Install apps, or Install Microsoft 365 apps.

  1. Go to https://www.microsoft365.com/
  2. Select Sign in
  3. Sign in using your Keyano student email address
  4. Select Apps from the left menu
  5. Select All apps
  6. In the top-right, select Install and more (or Install apps)
  7. Select Install Microsoft 365 apps
  8. Run the downloaded installer and follow the prompts

Activate Office After Installing

  1. Open Word (or Excel / PowerPoint)
  2. If prompted, sign in using your Keyano student email address
  3. Office should activate automatically after sign-in

View or Remove Old Devices

If you have installed Office on multiple devices, you can review where it is installed and remove older installs if needed.

  1. Go to https://portal.office.com/account
  2. Select View apps & devices
  3. Review devices listed and remove older installs if available

If You Lost Access to Office

If Office stops working or shows as unlicensed, student access may have changed due to enrollment or registration status.

  • Confirm you are signed in with your Keyano student account (not a personal Microsoft account)
  • Try signing out of Office apps and signing back in using your Keyano account
  • If you are no longer registered in courses, Office access may no longer be available

Need Help?

If you cannot sign in or do not see the install options, submit an IT request and include your student email address and what device you are using.
