Password Manager - Microsoft Edge

Creating unique and strong passwords is important. Some people use simple passwords, others memorize one complex password and use it everywhere. Both are risky options, so don’t do it. Instead, use a password manager. The following article provides information about the built in password manager within Microsoft Edge.  

The Built in password manager in Microsoft Edge allows user to save passwords, auto fill them in web forms and sync across all signed in devices and monitors your password for passwords found in known online leaks. Using the built in password manager also defends users from Phishing sites as it will only auto fill passwords on sites to which users have already signed up. 

How to enable the built in Password Manager in Microsoft Edge

  1. Open Microsoft Edge     

  2. Navigate to the top right Corner, click on the Profile Symbol     

  3. Click on Sign in to sync data     

  4. Click on Work or school account     

  5. Click Continue

  6. Sign in using your user.name@keyano.ca user ID and Password

  7. You will then be asked to Authenticate through the Authenticator App

  8. Click Yes to continue      

  9. Choose your preferences

  10. Click Next

  11. Click Finish

  12. Click Got it on the pop up box. 

  13. Click the 3 dots beside the profile logo     

  14. Click on Settings

  15. Click on Passwords      

  16. Click on the Slide bar to enable Suggest strong Passwords     

  17. Strong password recommendations in now enabled, the next time you create an account for a new site, Edge will suggest a strong password for it. Like in the example below. If you don’t like the password, you can always click the Refresh button to get a new one.                               

Password Manager and suggest strong passwords is now enabled within Microsoft Edge.  If you are using a shared computer, please log out though the profile symbol in the top right corner when you are not using the computer.
