Password Manager - Mozilla Firefox

Creating unique and strong passwords is important. Some people use simple passwords, others memorize one complex password and use it everywhere. Both are risky options, so don’t do it. Instead, use a password manager. The following article provides information about the built in password manager within Mozilla Firefox.  

The Built in password manager in Mozilla Firefox allows user to save passwords, auto fill them in web forms, sync across all devices signed into Mozilla Firefox, Firefox also automatically suggests complex passwords when signing up to new websites. Using the built in password manager also defends users from Phishing sites as it will only auto fill passwords on sites to which users have already signed up. 

How to enable the built in Password Manager in Mozilla Firefox

 

  1.   Open Mozilla Firefox                                                               
  2.  Navigate to the top right Corner, click on the 3 horizontal bars Symbol                                 
  3. Click on your account to sign in
  4. If you do not already have a Mozilla Firefox account, you will need to create a new account, Enter your keyano email address and follow the step to set up a Firefox account         ​​​  
  5.  For new accounts, Mozilla authenticates through its own application, you will be asked to download and install the app on your phone to complete the registration

  7. For existing accounts, click on Show Code, follow the directions to sync the account 
  8. Click Continue
  9. If connecting to any Keyano.ca website you will then be asked to Authenticate through the Authenticator App. 
  10. Click on the 3 bars beside the profile logo
  11.  Click on Settings
  12. Click on Privacy and Security      
  13. Check the boxes under Logins and Passwords.   
    1. Ask to save logins
    2. ​​​​​​​Autofill Logins and Passwords
    3. Suggest and generate strong passwords.  
  14. Strong password recommendations in now enabled, the next time you create an account for a new site, Firefox will suggest a strong password for it.

You are now set up to use the built in Password Manager within Mozilla Firefox.  If you are using a shared computer, please log out though the profile symbol in the top right corner when you are not using the computer.
