Use the Parallels Client to securely access Keyano applications and resources while working remotely.

Introduction

This article explains how to access Keyano resources and applications while working remotely using VDI (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure). Through VDI, you can access Connect, shared drives, and department-specific applications such as ReQlogic, CityWide Budgeting, and the Q drive.

Info: Microsoft Office, Teams, Outlook, OneDrive, and more can be accessed anywhere by visiting https://desktop.office.com and signing in with your Keyano credentials.

1) First-time Use (MFA Setup)

Upon accessing the Parallels VDI (desktop.keyano.ca) for the first time you will be required to setup Microsoft Authenticator MFA specifically for this service.

  1. Enter your Keyano AD (Windows PC) credentials (without the @keyano.ca) in the Username/Password box.

  2. Click the Sign In button
  3. You'll be prompted to Configure Mobile App.
    1. Open the Microsoft Authenticator App
    2. Follow the on-screen instructions to to setup Parallels as a new MFA entry in the app.
    3. Click OK
  4. Enter the One Time Passcode (OTP) from the Parallels entry in your Microsoft Authenticator App (you may need to click into the new entry to see the code)
  5. You'll now have MFA setup and be signed-in to Parallels VDI

2) Recommended Method: Use the Parallels Client

Follow the steps below to connect using the Parallels Client installed on your computer.

Parallels Client – Application Icon  

The application used to access Keyano’s virtual desktop environment.

  1. Open your Start Menu.
  2. Search for Parallels Client.
  3. Click the application to open it.
  4. Double-click the cloud icon labelled desktop.keyano.ca.

Add Server (First-Time Setup)

  1. Select Create Connection if this is your first time connecting to Keyano VDI with the Parallels Client.
  2. Connection Server Address: Enter desktop.keyano.ca and select Next.
  3. Click Create.
  4. Enter your Keyano AD (Windows PC) credentials in the Username/Password box. 
  5. Enter the One Time Passcode (OTP) from the Parallels entry in your Microsoft Authenticator App.
  6. You will now see the sessions/applications you are entitled to access (e.g. Staff Desktop), double click it to start a session.
Tip: The virtual desktop may open in full screen by default.
To exit full screen, select Exit Fullscreen from the top menu bar. If the menu bar is hidden, move your mouse to the top center of the screen to display it.

3) Alternative Method: Access VDI Using a Web Browser

Use this option only if you are unable to access the Parallels Client.

  1. Open a supported web browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari).
  2. Go to https://desktop.keyano.ca.
  3. Enter your Keyano AD (Windows PC) credentials in the Username/Password box. 
  4. Enter the One Time Passcode (OTP) from the Parallels entry in your Microsoft Authenticator App.
  5. You will now see the sessions/applications you are entitled to access (e.g. Staff Desktop), double click it to start a session.
Warning: When using the web version, your local computer taskbar and the virtual desktop taskbar may appear close together. Ensure you are opening applications inside the virtual desktop.
