Creating unique and strong passwords is important. Some people use simple passwords, others memorize one complex password and use it everywhere. Both are risky options, so don’t do it. Instead, use a password manager. The following article provides information about the built in password manager within Google Chrome.  

The Built in password manager in Google Chrome allows user to save passwords, auto fill them in web forms and sync across all devices signed into google. Using the built in password manager also defends users from Phishing sites as it will only auto fill passwords on sites to which users have already signed up. 

How to enable the built in Password Manager in Google Chrome 

  1. Open Google Chrome     
  2. Navigate to the top right Corner, click on the Profile Symbol
  3. Click on your account to sign in    
  4.  If you do not already have a Google (Gmail) account, you will need to create a new account, Click on the + and follow the step to set up a Google (Gmail) account
  5.  For new accounts,  after creating your account.  Click on Turn on Sync Settings
  6. For existing accounts, verify Sync is on by clicking on the profile button 
  7. Click Continue
  8. If connecting to any Keyano.ca website you will then be asked to Authenticate through the Authenticator App. 
  9. Click on the 3 vertical dots beside the profile logo    
  10. Click on Settings
  11. Click on Autofill             
  12. Click on Passwords         
  13. Click on the Slide bar Offer to save passwords             
  14. Strong password recommendations in now enabled, the next time you create an account for a new site, Chrome will suggest a strong password for it.

You are now set up to use the built in Password Manager within Google Chrome.  If you are using a shared computer, please log out though the profile symbol in the top right corner when you are not using the computer.
